Bugden Legal was privileged to host a meeting with the Hon Rick Houenipwela, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands on 11 July 2018. His delegation included his Private Secretary, Dr Jimmie Rodgers, as well as the Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Australia, H.E. Colin Beck and the Chief Technical Advisor to the Islands Lands Department, Mr Alan McNeil. Various Australian officials were also present.
The Solomon Islands Government has prepared a Strata Titles Bill for introduction to their Parliament and the Prime Minister was interested to discuss the merits of the Bill and the relationship between its contents and Queensland community titles laws. During the course of the meeting Mr Bugden gave a detailed presentation on the Queensland legislation.
The Solomon Star of Saturday 14 July 2018 reported the visit on its front page, explaining that “The Prime Minister visited the offices of Gary Bugden OAM, a highly regarded Strata Titles lawyer, followed by a stroll around Southbank, a large Strata Title complex near the Brisbane CBD.” Mr Bugden was the solicitor for the South Bank Corporation during the formative years of that development, including the design of the leasehold strata titles system which operates there.
Bugden Legal offer a wide range of legislative policy and drafting services to Governments both in Australia and overseas and the Prime Minister’s visit was further recognition of the firm’s Government related work.
